FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Massages Painful?

In general, massages should be a relaxing experience, though certain techniques may cause a little discomfort more than others. It's important to remember that any discomfort you feel is usually short-lived and a sign that tight or knotted muscles are being addressed, especially with deeper tissue work. Over time, as you continue with regular treatments, you'll likely find the sessions will not lead to any discomfort and will notice more of the positive effects.

If at any point during your massage the pressure feels too intense, please say so immediately and the technique can be adjusted to use gentler methods, such as myofascial release with warm mittst thereby easing the tension in sensitive areas. Open communication ensures you remain comfortable and get the most benefit from your session.

What If I Fall Asleep During My Massage?

It’s perfectly normal to fall asleep when receiving a massage. Particularly as the aim of most massage treatments is to promote relaxation – and sleeping would suggest you’re certainly relaxed! If you do happen to fall asleep, there’s no need to worry as this is something we’re very familiar with.

How Do I Know What Type of Massage Is Right for Me?

Knowing which massage treatment is right for you can be confusing and will depend upon your specific needs, symptoms and lifestyle. If you’re pregnant, we recommend a pregnancy or prenatal massage, as this will be the safest treatment option for you.

If you have specific requirements or injuries, contact me beforehand to discuss the most suitable treatment. This will also allow for the appropriately treatment to be tailored to provide the best possible and most effective massage.

Do I Need to Prepare for My Massage Treatment?

There’s no strict regime for getting ready for your massage, but a few simple steps can help you get the best results. I suggest you choose comfortable loose-fitting clothes to wear, skip applying any moisturiser or lotions beforehand, avoid eating or consuming alcohol just before your session and make sure you’re well-hydrated both before and after your massage, as the process can sometimes leave you a bit dehydrated.

Should Deep Tissue Massages Be Carried Out Before or After a Workout?

We advise booking your massages after physical activity or a gym session. This can support your body’s recovery and ensuring you’re in better shape for your next bout of exercise.

Can Massages Help Improve Sleep?

Massages can indeed enhance your sleep quality, and many individuals seek them out for this very benefit. The reason is that massage therapy eases both muscle tension and stress, which are major factors affecting sleep. You might notice you feel sleepy during or after your treatment, simply because your stress levels have dropped. I’d recommend to book our ‘Healing Hands’ for back, shoulder, neck and head massage.

What kind of approval letter should I obtain before the Oncology Massages journey to recover treatment?

I’d like to receive information as much as possible to ensure the treatment is suitable for you. We require a referral letter from your professional healthcare provider to summarise your medical conditions, and to know it’s good to go ahead with massage treatments. This is a very gentle massage to restore body functionality slowly.

How often can I have lymphatic Drainage massages?

Lymphatic drainage massage is typically suitable for one or two sessions per week, tailored to your personal requirements and general health. This is particularly beneficial if you are recovering from surgery or have ongoing medical needs that call for consistent support. Alternatively, you may opt for treatments every two weeks or monthly, based on your preference. I can also provide you with simple daily exercises you can practise at home to complement your sessions.
